The Goat of Mendes

Nothing says "buy me" like Satan, suits and and naked woman being seduced by evil livestock. I'll admit I'd heard plenty about the 2001 Akercocke release The Goat of Mendes but until yesterday I'd not heard so much as one note from it. For a death metal album it's pretty well done and fairly encompassing. It starts with a pleasent little song called "Of Menstrual Blood and Semen", catchy huh? A pretty straight forward DM song but entertaining in it's own right. Second is "A Skin to Dance In". A post-goth-pseudo-techno blitz of satanic disaster that made me perk right up and take note...and that's just the first two songs. As I continue to listen I am reminded of a wave of different influences scattered from genre to genre and peppering the album throughout. Would I recommend The Goat of Mendes? Well I have to say, yes. If you come across it, give it a spin. If nothing else you have a great cover to stare at.
